Major crackdown against cyber crime in Gujarat; accused linked to China, Dubai-based gangs held

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government today announced that in the last 15 days, cybercrime teams from four cities, namely Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, and Vadodara, along with the State Cybercrime Cell, have solved 12 major cases. The teams have arrested accomplices of a Chinese cybercrime gang as well as masterminds behind crimes like digital arrest. Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghvi congratulated all Gujarat Police teams and the officers who guided them on this success.
Crackdown by Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Branch
On 16 May 2025, the Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Branch nabbed six members of a Chinese cybercrime gang operating from Cambodia and Nepal — Manan Goswami, Rahul Yadav, Arif Syed, Gautam alias Marco, Chirag Dhola, and Yash Yadav. The gang hacked the ICICI Bank account of a person named Pranay Bhavsar and executed a transaction of ₹48.85 lakh. The accused confined Pranay in a hotel in Nepal for six days and committed crimes such as digital arrest, investment fraud, and Telegram task scams. Based on technical analysis and human intelligence, the accused were apprehended from Ahmedabad and Surat. Over 200 complaints have been registered against their accounts on the NCCRP portal.
In another case, on 14 May 2025, Janak Bhalala and Bhavesh Bordan — who defrauded ₹14.94 lakh via digital arrest — were arrested in Surat. The duo impersonated a Mumbai Cyber Crime Inspector and digitally detained a woman under the pretext of a parcel containing drugs.
In yet another case, accused Dilip Jagani (33, Ahmedabad) was involved in seven cyber fraud and cheating cases, including digital arrest, forgery of documents, and financial deception. He was found facilitating bank accounts, transferring fraudulent funds, and working with Cambodian-Chinese nationals in Nepal. He has been arrested.
Action by Surat Cyber Crime Cell
On 2 May 2025, Surat Cyber Crime Cell arrested Anilbhai Kheni (35, Surat), a member of a Dubai-based cyber fraud gang. He defrauded victims by withdrawing dirhams via a POS machine. Authorities seized four mobile phones, five debit cards, 12 SIM cards, and other items. Additionally, on 7 May 2025, the Surat team arrested Rahul Chaudhary (28, Vapi), who cheated ₹9.30 lakh by offering bogus forex trading deals. He lured victims through a fake app promoted on Instagram.
On 15 May 2025, Amit Kumar and Sumit Kumar Thakur (from Delhi) were arrested for duping a victim of ₹98.85 lakh through a fake insurance policy, using false details shared over phone and email. In another case on 16 May 2025, a 90-year-old senior citizen was digitally arrested and defrauded of ₹1.15 crore. Accused Parth Gopani (22, Nepal) was arrested at Lucknow Airport after impersonating a CBI/ED officer. On the same day, another elderly victim lost ₹22 lakh in a similar scam. Surat Police arrested Krunalsinh Sisodia (21, Ahmedabad), who impersonated a CBI officer during a fraudulent video call.
Rajkot Cyber Crime Team’s Action
On 3 May 2025, the Rajkot Cyber Crime Team arrested Raghuveer Singh Chauhan from the Gujarat-Maharashtra border for creating a fake profile and defrauding individuals. On 2 May 2025, action was also taken against nine social media influencers promoting online gambling websites.
Efforts by Vadodara Cyber Crime Police
Vadodara Cyber Crime Police recovered ₹1.01 crore from a ₹2.71 crore fraud case by May 2025. In one case, a suspect involved in a ₹23 lakh digital arrest fraud was arrested in Pune. He had transferred ₹50 lakh through more than 15 bank accounts.
State Cyber Crime Cell
Based on a complaint by Hasman Gupta in Vadodara, an investigation was launched against individuals providing illegal streaming services via BOSIPTV and IPTV, which resulted in revenue loss to Indian television channels.
The Gujarat government credited this success of the police to the effective use of technology and the unwavering dedication of its cybercrime teams.
