Navsari man shares deepfake video of PM Modi in WhatsApp group; held

Navsari: The local police have arrested one Mahendra Patel in Vansda for allegedly circulating a deepfake video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a WhatsApp group named “Enjoy Group”, of which he was the administrator.
As per the details, the video was created by morphing PM Modi’s voice and image using deepfake technology and contained disturbing imagery intended to spread fear and misinformation. The clip also included lewd remarks about the Army and Operation Sindoor.
Acting on a tip-off, the Vansda police checked the accused’s mobile phone and traced the video to a Facebook link. Police also stated that the video was created and circulated to instill fear and disrupt public order. The accused has been booked under BNS Sections 197(1)(D) and 353(1)(B), and Section 66(C) of the Information Technology Act. DeshGujarat
