Sabarmati River in Ahmedabad to be emptied

Ahmedabad: River Sabarmati which remains full of water ever since the Sabarmati Riverfront is in place, will be seen dry and without water
for a few days, as the Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation Ltd (SRFDCL) has decided to release the water from Vasna barrage for pre-monsoon repair work of barrage.
SRFDCL has in a note informed that in response to demand by the Executive Engineer’s Office, Ahmedabad Irrigation Department, Narmada Water Resources and Kalpsar Department, Government of Gujarat, gate repair work has been undertaken at Vasna Barrage considering the dam’s safety and the pre-monsoon repairs. This work will be carried out from May 12, 2025, to June 5, 2025.
Additionally, as the work of constructing an earthen ramp in the upstream of Vasna Barrage is to be undertaken. It is therefore necessary to completely empty the river. The work for this has been started on May 10, 2025.
During this time, Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and SRFDCL will undertake the work of cleaning the riverbed. This river cleaning work will be carried out through public participation. DeshGujarat
