April 30, 2025
Surat: Out of the 150 suspected Bangladeshi immigrants detained in the city, over 100 have been confirmed as Bangladeshi nationals, including more than 45 women, as revealed during a joint interrogation by Surat Police and central agencies. The arrested individuals had reportedly entered India illegally by crossing the border with the help of agents and were living in hiding across various parts of Surat.
It is learnt that mobile phones seized from 50 individuals contained Bangladeshi phone numbers and chat records, prompting further investigation. A detailed interrogation was jointly carried out by Surat Police, the armed forces, and both State and Central Intelligence Bureaus (IB), during which each suspect was questioned extensively.
All confirmed Bangladeshi nationals are currently being held at the Bhikshuk Gruh in Surat, where authorities are verifying their identities and documents. Under directives from the Central and State Governments, the investigation phase has been completed, and agencies are now preparing detailed reports for submission.
Meanwhile, special teams from various agencies have begun operations in rural areas of Surat to identify additional suspects. Surat’s Police Commissioner stated that the operation is still ongoing, and further actions are expected in the coming days. DeshGujarat
