6,500 suspected Bangladeshis detained across Gujarat; 450 identified

Gandhinagar: In a massive statewide action against illegal Bangladeshi migrants, a total of 6,500 suspected Bangladeshis have been detained across the state for questioning in two days. Out of these, 450 have been confirmed to have entered the country illegally and are set to face deportation.

A state-level monthly crime conference was organized today at the district headquarters in Nadiad, Kheda district. State DGP Vikas Sahay, Range IGs, and other senior police officials attended the conference, where police activities for March 2025 were reviewed.

Speaking to the media after the conference, DGP Vikas Sahay stated, “Within two days, 6,500 suspected Bangladeshis have been detained across the state, and 450 have been identified as illegal immigrants during the interrogation who had entered the country illegally. Others are also being questioned, and the process is a bit lengthy, as a thorough probe is required in the matter.”

The police detained around 890 suspects in Ahmedabad, 379 in Surat, over 1,700 in Vadodara, and 800 in Rajkot, while more were nabbed in other districts of the state.

Earlier this morning, Ahmedabad Police Commissioner G.S. Malik, DCP Crime Ajit Rajian, and other senior officials visited the Chandola Lake area, where they found the area deserted.
