Solar Panel Shortage and Price Surge
April 21, 2025
Surat: Homeowners are facing significant hurdles in adopting solar energy due to a sudden shortage and steep price increase in solar panels. Those who want to install solar panels need to wait for 30 to 90 days for delivery.
This development is reportedly linked to the implementation of American regulations affecting imports.
The surge in demand for solar panels, driven by initiatives like the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (PM Free Electricity for Homes Scheme, in which domestically manufactured solar panel installation is a must), has further exacerbated the supply issues. Gujarat has been at the forefront of this scheme with 42 percent participation, witnessing substantial participation.
The increased demand now clashes with a reduced supply, causing the price of solar panels with a 1-kilowatt capacity to jump by ₹4000-₹5000 within the last 90 days. DeshGujarat
