AMC to Install Rainwater Harvesting Systems in 1800 Buildings

Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is set to install roof-top rainwater harvesting systems in approximately 1800 buildings across the city’s zones in the span of next one and half year. This initiative is part of the “Catch the Rain” campaign by the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti.

According to a note released by the AMC, the project aims to collect rainwater from the rooftops of various municipal buildings, including zonal offices, ward offices, hospitals, municipal schools, urban health centers, libraries, water distribution stations, and drainage pumping stations. The collected rainwater will be filtered and stored in underground tanks or percolated into existing borewells or percolation wells within the campuses. This will help in raising the ground water level.

In the first phase, the AMC has initiated the installation of these systems in 400 buildings at an estimated cost of ₹5.50 crore. This phase is expected to be completed before the upcoming monsoon season. The AMC anticipates that this project will help conserve the Narmada water supplied daily and improve the quality of borewell water by raising the ground water level. DeshGujarat
