Gujarati man stabbed to death in Melbourne, Australia

Melbourne: A Gujarati youth was killed in a brutal stabbing on Winton Street in Burwood, Melbourne, sending shockwaves through the diaspora, particularly the Gujarati community.

The victim, 39-year-old Mihir Desai, a native of Bilimora in Navsari who had moved to Australia around a decade ago, was allegedly stabbed to death by his own roommate on April 8.

Upon being informed of the incident, local police and emergency services rushed to the spot. However, Mihir succumbed to his injuries at the scene due to the severity of the wounds. A 42-year-old man, who also lived in the same house, was arrested at the property and has been charged with murder. Reports suggest that the accused is also of Indian origin.

A forensic team collected evidence from the scene, and neighbors are being questioned. The exact motive behind the murder remains unknown at this stage. Mihir Desai was a resident of Yamuna Nagar Society in Bilimora, where his mother lives alone. His sister resides in Germany.

Mihir’s post-mortem has been conducted in Australia, and the body has been kept there for now. Further procedures to repatriate his body to India will be initiated after the arrival of his sister from Germany. DeshGujarat
