Ambaji to host 550 women archers from across India for National Tournament

Banaskantha: As part of the Khelo India Games initiative launched by the Central Government, the first NTPC Khelo India National Ranking Women’s Archery Tournament will be held at Shaktipeeth Ambaji—an epicenter of power, devotion, and faith in Banaskantha, Gujarat. Following the conclusion of Chaitri Navratri, around 550 women from 28 states and 8 union territories will participate in the ‘Adishakti National Women’s Archery Competition’ from April 8 to 10, 2025.

The National Women’s Archery Competition is being organized by the Sports Authority of Gujarat (SAG), Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Limited (TCGL), and the Archery Association of India at Yatradham Ambaji in Danta taluka. Following the motto “Sankalp ki Shakti se Saflata ke Shikhar Par”, women archers from across India will showcase their talent. It is worth noting that this tournament also celebrates the 150th birth anniversary of Lord Birsa Munda.

Approximately 550 women archers will compete in the Adyashakti National Women’s Archery Competition from Chaitra Sud 11th to Chaitra Sud 13th. The qualification round and opening ceremony will take place on April 8 at the GMDC Ground in Ambaji, followed by the knockout round for the top 16, aarti, and a light-and-sound show on April 9. The medal matches and prize distribution will be held on April 10. Winners in both recurve and compound events will receive a total cash prize of ₹41.52 lakh.

The event will also feature devotional performances by over 100 local artists, adding a cultural dimension to the sports spectacle. Notably, the Sports Authority of Gujarat plans to organize this tournament annually in collaboration with the Archery Association of India, fostering a strong sports culture and positioning Gujarat as an emerging hub for athletics.
