Chief Minister Patel Oversees Development of Mokar Sagar Wetland as Tourist Hub

Porbandar: Chief Minister Shri Bhupendrabhai Patel today inspected the ongoing development of the Mokar Sagar wetland area near Porbandar, a project aimed at transforming the region into a prominent tourist destination. The state government is investing approximately Rs. 200 crore in this ambitious initiative.
During his visit, the Chief Minister received a comprehensive briefing on the project’s layout and features through detailed maps. He also took the opportunity to observe the scenic beauty of Mokar Sagar through binoculars, gaining a firsthand appreciation for the area’s natural splendor.
Prior to his participation in the renowned Madhavpur Ghedna Mela, Shri Patel conducted a thorough inspection of the construction site. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that the project’s development does not negatively impact the natural habitat of local and migratory birds. He further provided necessary guidance on maintaining seamless arrangements for tourist movement.
The Chief Minister also inquired about the project’s construction timeline and the planned facilities for tourists. Secretary of the Tourism Department, Shri Rajendra Kumar, provided a detailed overview of the project, highlighting the unique features of the Mokar Sagar wetland area and its rich avian biodiversity through detailed maps.
The foundation stone for the Mokar Sagar wetland development project was laid by Prime Minister Shri Narendrabhai Modi from Lathi, underscoring the project’s significance.
Mokar Sagar is a crucial habitat for migratory birds, particularly during the winter season, attracting a diverse range of avian species. The area also supports a substantial population of local birds.
The state government is actively constructing a range of facilities to enhance the tourist experience and provide employment opportunities for local residents. These include a watch tower, an interpretation center, a wetland park, and a food court-community center.
