Sanand police nab two for duping mobile store with fake UPI screenshot to get iPhone 16

Sanand: The local police have arrested a grocery store worker and an auto-rickshaw driver for allegedly defrauding a mobile phone dealership using a fake payment confirmation.

The accused, Mohammad Shoaib Ahmed Shaikh (35), tricked Motabhai Electronics into delivering an iPhone 16 worth ₹73,400 by generating a fraudulent UPI transaction screenshot. According to police, Shaikh contacted the store, expressing interest in purchasing the iPhone. After the store agreed to an online payment, he used a counterfeit app mimicking Paytm’s interface to create a fake payment confirmation. He then sent the screenshot to the store, which, believing the transaction was genuine, proceeded with the delivery.

Shaikh requested the phone be sent to an alternate location, where his accomplice, Akhtar Hussain Gulam Dastaki Kagadi (48), collected it in exchange for ₹2,500. When the store realized the fraud, they lodged a complaint, leading to an FIR. Using digital tracking, police traced and arrested Shaikh on Thursday, followed by Kagadi’s arrest. The phone used in the crime will be sent for forensic examination. Authorities have urged traders to remain vigilant against such scams. DeshGujarat
