Gujarat CM meets Commonwealth Games Federation Chief Chris Jenkins in Gandhinagar

Gandhinagar: Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel today held a meeting with the President of the Commonwealth Games Federation, Chris Jenkins OBE, in Gandhinagar.

During this meeting, they discussed the future development of the sports sector and the upcoming international sports events expected to be held in India.

The Chief Minister emphasized the role of sports talent, including young players, in benefiting from the sustainable sports infrastructure created in Gujarat under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Additionally, he informed the President of the Commonwealth Games Federation about the successful completion of mega events such as Khel Mahakumbh and Khelo India.

The Chief Minister also discussed how Gujarat is preparing to host prestigious global sports events, including the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships in 2025, the Under-20 Athletics Championships in 2028, and the World Police and Fire Games in 2029.

During the meeting, the President of the Commonwealth Games Federation, Chris Jenkins, also shared information about the Commonwealth Games 2026-2030 roadmap and the Games Reset Framework.

He mentioned that, to reduce the financial burden on the host nation and ensure financial stability, the goal is to make maximum use of the existing sports infrastructure of that nation to organize the games.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel also expressed his readiness to collaborate with the Commonwealth Games Federation, leveraging their experience and knowledge to organize international-level mega events.

The meeting was also attended by Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Pankaj Joshi, Principal Secretary of Sports, Youth, and Cultural Activities Ashwini Kumar, Director General of the Sports Authority of Gujarat Ninama, and Secretary Vala, among others. DeshGujarat
