MS University professor held for stalking, harassment of female student

Vadodara: An assistant professor from MS University, accused of stalking a female student, was arrested by the Sayajigunj police on Sunday. Mohammed Azhar Dheriwala has been booked for stalking, making inappropriate gestures, and threatening to sabotage the student’s career, according to an FIR filed on Saturday.

In her complaint, a second-year Master of Arts student claimed that Dheriwala, a faculty member in the Department of Hindi, repeatedly made gestures inviting her to his office. When she declined, he allegedly threatened to ruin her career. The student further stated that Dheriwala followed her to her home and tried to defame her. She also accused him of harassment through WhatsApp messages.

Police inspector Z N Dhasura mentioned that the professor had been suspended earlier following a recommendation from the university’s internal complaints committee after another student accused him of sexual harassment.

Student organizations and former student leaders have called for strict action against him. He had been with MSU for 23 years. DeshGujarat
