DRI Seizes 3 kg of Smuggled Gold at Ahmedabad Airport

Ahmedabad: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI’s) Ahmedabad Zonal Unit (AZU) foiled a gold smuggling attempt at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in the city on Wednesday. The DRI team seized 3 kg of gold, valued at approximately Rs 2.35 crore. The gold was concealed in the piston cavities of two mini air compressors.
Acting on specific intelligence, DRI officials intercepted an Indian national arriving from Bangkok and found the concealed gold in his luggage. The individual was arrested under the Customs Act, and an investigation is underway to trace the source and intended destination of the gold.
In the official statement, the DRI stated that in 2024, its crackdown on gold smuggling has resulted in seizures totaling more than 93 kg (worth around Rs 66 crore) across Ahmedabad and Surat International Airports. DeshGujarat
