December 19, 2024
Surat: The Dang District Dev Birsa Sena has submitted a memorandum to the Dang District Collector, urging the protection of tribal customs, traditions, and rituals.
The memorandum highlights that the entire population of Dang district consists of tribal communities, who have been practicing their ancestral beliefs for generations. According to the Sena, the tribals in the region are nature worshippers who have long revered their traditional deities, such as Wad dev, Nag dev, Dungar dev, Pan dev, Anna dev, Van dev, Sury dev, Adi dev, Him dev, Diwali Dev, and Holi Dev, among others. These customs have been passed down from generation to generation to preserve the community’s cultural heritage.
The Birsa Sena called for the concerns of the tribal community to be conveyed to the authorities and emphasized that those who have converted to Islam or Christianity should not be considered as Scheduled Tribes, citing recommendations from the Joint Parliamentary Committee dated July 10, 1967, among other references.
By submitting this memorandum, the Dang Dev Birsa Sena seeks to ensure the continued protection and recognition of the tribal traditions that have shaped the identity of the region’s communities for centuries.DeshGujarat
