Diu bans alcohol consumption at tourist spots
December 18, 2024
Diu: To address the growing problem of unruly behaviour by intoxicated tourists, the Diu administration has prohibited alcohol consumption at various tourist locations. The district collector issued a notification under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, banning drinking at Ghoghla Beach, Nagoa Beach, Diu Jethibai Bus Stand, Diu Fort, Saint Paul Church, Jalandhar Beach, and other public spots.
The notification highlights that many individuals purchase alcohol from liquor shops and consume it nearby or in public areas, leading to issues such as littering with glass bottles, open discarding of alcohol containers, and increased incidents of violence, indecency, and criminal activities. Such behaviour disrupts family outings, poses risks of public altercations, and can result in property damage or personal injuries. The ban will remain in effect for 60 days. DeshGujarat
