December 07, 2024
Ahmedabad: Anand district police have arrested a 24-year-old Malawi national, Chinula Abel, for allegedly overstaying his student visa, which expired in August 2024. Abel was apprehended in the city’s Chandkheda area on Friday evening following an investigation by the Special Operations Group (SOG).
During a routine check of foreign nationals’ credentials, the SOG discovered that Abel, a student at a private university in Changa, had not left India despite his visa expiring in August 2024. After verifying the information with the Embassy, the police filed an FIR at Mahelav police station. Deputy Superintendent of Police Pramod Diyora stated that Abel’s continued stay was confirmed, leading to his arrest. Authorities are now probing his activities in Ahmedabad after his visa expired.
