India submits formal bid to host 2036 Olympic, Paralympic Games: Report
November 05, 2024
New Delhi: India has taken a significant step toward potentially hosting the 2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games. On October 1st, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) submitted a Letter of Intent to the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Future Host Commission, as reported by news agency IANS.
This submission follows repeated expressions of interest from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who views the Games as a potential opportunity for national advancement. Notably, Gujarat is a frontrunner for hosting these Games if India’s bid receives approval from the IOC.
According to a source in the sports ministry, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games in India in 2036 has gained considerable momentum.”
During last year’s 141st IOC Session held in Mumbai, Modi stated, “We will spare no effort in organizing the Olympics on Indian soil in 2036. This has been the long-held dream of 140 crore Indians, and it must be realized with your cooperation.” IOC President Thomas Bach also supported India’s bid, asserting that there is a “strong case” for India to host the Olympic Games.
India now joins nine other countries that have expressed interest in hosting the 2036 Games, including Mexico (Mexico City, Guadalajara-Monterrey-Tijuana), Indonesia (Nusantara), Turkey (Istanbul), Poland (Warsaw, Krakow), Egypt (New Administrative Capital), and South Korea (Seoul-Incheon). The IOC’s Future Host Commission will manage the selection process, which involves a thorough evaluation of each candidate country. The final decision on the host city is anticipated to be made in the coming years. DeshGujarat
