Gandhinagar: The Sardar Sarovar Narmada Dam achieved its full reservoir level on Tuesday, and on the same day, the state government approved ₹1,056 crore for a Narmada water network project in Banaskantha district’s Diyodar, Tharad, Deesa, and Lakhani talukas.

As part of this project in north Gujarat, 183 ponds and lakes in 124 villages of these talukas will be filled with Narmada water, benefiting approximately 15,000 hectares of agricultural land with irrigation, according to the government. The project will include a main pipeline of 53.70 km and a network of 412 km of branch pipelines, stated Kunvarji Bavaliya, the state water resources and water supply minister.

Since these villages are located at a higher elevation than the main Narmada canal, water will be pumped into both the main and branch pipelines under the ‘lift-pipeline’ system, according to the official statement. DeshGujarat
