Narmada: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Chaitar Vasava, along with 20 others, has been booked by police for allegedly assaulting a restaurant owner over a billing dispute in Narmada.
The incident occurred in Dediapada on September 16th, and based on a complaint, the police filed an FIR against Dediapada MLA Chaitar Vasava, six identified individuals, and about 15 unidentified individuals. The accused have been booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), including rioting, unlawful assembly, causing injury, intentional insult, criminal intimidation, and conspiracy. Authorities have confirmed that no arrests have been made so far.
The complaint filed by Shantilal Vasava, a restaurant owner, stated that Vasava and the others allegedly verbally abused and assaulted him on the night of September 16 when he requested payment for the restaurant bill. The complainant claimed he called Chaitar Vasava to settle the bill, which reportedly angered the MLA. Vasava then instructed him to wait at his house.
An official indicated that the MLA arrived at the complainant’s residence with a group of 20 people, slapped him, and verbally abused him. Additionally, associates of the AAP leader physically assaulted the complainant and issued death threats.
Vasava, who won the Dediapada constituency in the 2022 Gujarat elections, later contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from the Bharuch seat under a seat-sharing agreement with Congress but lost.
In December of last year, the MLA was arrested for allegedly threatening a forest official, firing shots in the air, and extorting money. He spent nearly six weeks in jail before being granted regular bail by a sessions court. DeshGujarat
