PM Modi flags off Ahmedabad – Gandhinagar Metro Rail service; travels on board the metro train

Gandhinagar: On the second day of his visit to his home state of Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 4th Global Renewable Energy Investment Meet & Expo (RE-INVEST 2024) earlier today. Now he is flagging off the 20.8 km long corridor of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project Phase II from Sector-1 Station in the state capital. Following the flag-off, the Prime Minister will travel on board the train.
The Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project Phase II extends the North-South Metro Corridor of Phase I. It includes a mainline that runs from APMC to Motera, extending to Mahatma Mandir, and a branch line that starts at GNLU and ends at GIFT City.
This project features an 8 km corridor with 8 stations, including the opening of a 15.4 km viaduct from Motera to Sector 1 and 6 stations (GNLU, Raysan, Randesan, Dholakuva Circle, Infocity, and Sector 1), as well as a 5.4 km link line to GIFT City with 2 stations (PDEU and Gift City). The total cost of the project is ₹3,284 crores.
Ahmedabad Metro Phase II is set to greatly benefit daily commuters between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, providing a safe, efficient, and environmentally friendly mode of transportation.
The Prime Minister will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for multiple development projects worth over ₹8,000 crores in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Key projects include the quadrupling of the Samakhiali–Gandhidham and Gandhidham–Adipur railway lines, the development of iconic roads in AMC, and the construction of flyover bridges over Bakrol, Hathijan, Ramol, and Panjarpol Junctions.
Additionally, the Prime Minister will inaugurate a 30 MW solar system and a 35 MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Solar PV Project at Kutch Lignite Thermal Power Station, as well as 220 Kilovolt substations in Morbi and Rajkot.
He will launch the Single Window IT System (SWITS) for the International Financial Services Centres Authority, aimed at streamlining financial services.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister will approve more than 30,000 houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin, releasing the first installment for these homes, and will kick off construction under the PMAY Scheme. He will also hand over completed houses to beneficiaries in both urban and rural segments of PMAY.
Lastly, he will flag off India’s first Vande Metro service from Bhuj to Ahmedabad and several Vande Bharat trains on routes including Nagpur to Secunderabad, Kolhapur to Pune, Agra Cantt to Banaras, Durg to Visakhapatnam, Pune to Hubballi, and the first 20-coach Vande Bharat train from Varanasi to Delhi.
