Orange alert for very heavy rain in Gujarat for next 48 hrs; Here’s IMD forecast
September 02, 2024
Ahmedabad: The Indian Meteorological Department, in its latest forecast, stated that heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places on September 2nd. It also indicated that there is a low to moderate flash flood risk likely over a few watersheds and neighborhoods in the Valsad, Tapi, Dahod, Mahisagar, Aravalli, Sabar Kantha, Navsari, Surat, Narmada, Bharuch, Vadodara, and Panchmahal districts during the next 24 hours.
The reason for this forecast of heavy to very heavy rain is the depression over southeastern Vidarbha and its neighborhood, which was centered at 5:30 AM IST on September 2nd, 2024, over East Vidarbha and adjoining Telangana, near latitude 19.6°N and longitude 80.0°E. It is likely to move nearly northwestward across Vidarbha and weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area during the next 12 hours.
According to the IMD’s latest bulletin, an orange alert with a forecast of heavy to very heavy rains has been issued for Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad, and in Daman and Dadra Nagar Haveli during the next 24 hours.
