June 26, 2024
Ahmedabad: A woman from Vadodara was apprehended by immigration officers at Ahmedabad International Airport on Tuesday. She presented a forged Indian passport and other fake documents to board an Air India flight to London. She intended to immigrate on the basis of a dependent visa in the name of her fictitious Portuguese national husband.
Banshi Rameshbhai Savaniya, 22, from Vadodara, presented herself as Banshi Rambhai Modhvadiya before the Immigration Officer Gajesinh Chauhan. Savaniya provided a fake Aadhar card, birth certificate, marriage certificate, and passport in the assumed name.
When asked about her parentage, she provided fake birth and marriage certificates, issued recently by a gram panchayat in Umbergaon, Valsad. The case was then handed over to Wing Incharge Gunturu Naren Kumar due to suspicions.
During interrogation, Savaniya could not give enough details about her supposed husband and in-laws. She eventually confessed to a marriage of convenience for a dependent UK visa and revealed her true identity. Officials found additional marksheets supporting her real identity as Banshi Rameshbhai Savaniya.
Airport authorities handed Savaniya over to SVPI Police Station for further investigation and legal action. The case is registered under IPC sections 406, 465, 467, 468, 471, and Passports Act Section 12(2) for presenting a Fraudulently Obtained Indian passport (FOIP) with assumed identity and parentage.
