Passenger to UAE held with Rs. 2.19 crore rough diamonds at Surat airport

Surat: Surat Airport based Custom staffers based on suspicion, stopped, checked and nabbed Katargam based diamond trader Sanjay Moradiya with Rs. 2.19 crore rough diamonds in his possesion. Export of rough diamonds attract five per cent duty.
Moradiya was on way to United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Indigo flight. Air Intelligence team checked him and his luggage. A small packet of rough diamonds was recovered from his luggage during this check. A packet of diamond was kept along with food items in his luggage. Customs officer called a valuer and the value of diamonds was found to be Rs. 2.19 crore.
Moradiya was identified as suspect through the Passenger Tracking System which offers information during boarding process about which passenger paid how many visits to UAE from Surat or returned to Surat from UAE. The data is collected through the entries in passport. DeshGujarat
