Gujarat Police detains Mufti Salman Azhari; Supporters gather on road in Ghatkopar

Gandhinagar: After the video of his inflammatory speech given in Junagadh went viral, the team of Gujarat Police’s Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) and Junagadh Police detained Mufti Salman Azhari from Ghatkopar area of Mumbai to take him to Junagadh and arrest him.

While Gujarat Police was wanting to take him to Junagadh, Mufti’s supporters surrounded the police in Ghatkopar area. Despite all the efforts of Mumbai Police, no solution could be found even after midnight. Gujarat Police has clearly maintained its stand that they will arrest Mufti and take him to the concerned police station area in Gujarat, which is Junagadh where he is booked for inflammatory speech.

An extra police force was called to control and disperse the crowd. Police also did a light lathicharge to control the situation. Gujarat Police and release Salman Azhari were meanwhile the trending topics on micro blogging site X (formerly Twitter).

Mufti Azhari had two days ago in Junagadh said – “The last battle of Karbala is still left. There is silence for some time, then there will be noise. Today is the time of dogs, tomorrow will be our turn.” Later they started shouting “Labbaik ya Rasulullah” (We insist on being obedient to the Prophet of Islam) and the crowd also repeated it.

A Muslims supporter of Mufti told police men that the statement of Mufti didn’t mention any religion, government etc and there was nothing offending about it. A supporter also informed that Mufti was taken by Police at around noon and his statement was also recorded but there was no clarity about the next course of action. A Muslim supporter further said that Mufti was booked under 153B and as per the Supreme Court guideline Mufti asked for 41A notice and transit anticipatory bail for 15 days but there was no favor from police in this regard.

Meanwhile Mufti addressed the mob by using mic provided by the police from the window of the first floor of police station and said that supporters should vacate the road for smooth movement of traffic and restoration of the law and order situation. Mufti made this appeal to his supporters who chanted slogans of ‘Allah u Akbar’. Mufti said the investigation was on and he was ready if police wanted to arrest him, while appealing supporters to calm down and leave the road. DeshGujarat
