AAP MLA Chaitar Vasava sent on 3-day police remand
December 15, 2023
Narmada: A local court here today sent Aam Aadmi Party MLA from the Dediapada seat, Chaitar Vasava, on a three-day remand until 12 noon on December 18th.
The AAP leader surrendered on Thursday after being on the run for over a month in a case related to extortion, firing in the air, and assault on forest officials at his residence in Bogaj village under his constituency. The police had requested a 14-day remand for investigation, but the court granted a 3-day remand.
AAP National General Secretary Gopal Italia represented Vasava in the Dediapada court, while Public Advocate Mukesh Chauhan argued in favor of the government. The arguments between the two continued for 30 minutes.
A police complaint was filed against Chaitar Vasava for summoning forest workers to his home, threatening them, firing shots into the air, and extorting money from them. After the police complaint, the MLA went underground but surrendered himself on Thursday.
Last week, while rejecting the anticipatory bail plea of Vasava, the Gujarat High Court noted that “He (Vasava) had no authority to summon forest officers to his house and should not have established a parallel court. If someone has a problem, he should go to court.”
It is learned that he was brought from Dediapada to Rajpipla LCB for questioning, where the District SP and police extensively interrogated Vasava until late at night. Three accused, including his wife, personal assistant, and a farmer, were arrested earlier in this case and are currently in jail. DeshGujarat
