AAI saves Rs. 137.41 crore annual running cost since Ahmedabad airport privatization: Govt

New Delhi: The Airport Authority of India leased out Ahmedabad airport in a public-private partnership in November 2020. Since then, the concessionaire Adani Group has earned a total revenue of Rs. 506 crore from this airport. On the other hand, the Airport Authority of India has saved running costs of around Rs. 137.41 crores annually. This information was provided by the Ministry of Civil Aviation during the ongoing Parliament winter session in Rajya Sabha.
The minister in his reply in the Rajya Sabha stated: Airports Authority of India (AAI) has leased out six airports namely Mangaluru, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Thiruvananthapuram, Jaipur & Guwahati under Public Private Partnership (PPP).
As per the present valuation, AAI has incurred an expenditure of approximately Rs. 2767 crore [including Capital Work in Progress and Regulated Asset Base (RAB) in aeuronautical and non- aeronautical Assets) at these six airports prior to handing over them to the PPP concessionaire. As per the concession agreement of 06 PPP Airports, the Concessionaire has paid this amount in the form of Upfront Fee.
This amount is subject to the requisite reconciliation, true-up and final determination by Airports Economic Regulatory Authority of India (AERA) of the quantum of such investment.
The details of airport wise running costs saved by AAI per annum (approximately) is as under:
- ~ Ahmedabad – 137.41 crore
- ~ Jaipur – Rs 50.96 crore
- ~ Lucknow – 62.96 crore
- ~ Mangaluru – 53.29 crore
- ~ Thiruvananthapuram – Rs. 142.09 crore
- ~ Guwahati – 67.88 crore
Since takeover, each of the 6 Concessionaires have earned the following revenue:
- ~ Ahmedabad – 506 crore
- ~ Jaipur – 251 crore
- ~ Lucknow – 365 crore
- ~ Mangaluru – 118 crore
- ~ Thiruvananthapuram – Rs. 350 crore
- ~ Guwahati – 248 crore
