Surat as one of four Growth Hubs of India: Niti Aayog team visits the city

Surat: To realise the vision of making India a developed India by the year 2047, the policy aims to create such mega economic growth hubs by developing the most rapidly growing important cities and adjoining areas in India as “Growth Hubs” to give further impetus to existing economic activities and develop new industries and economic sectors. Niti Aayog, the Government of India team, visited Surat today. It is worth mentioning here that the Government of India has planned to develop four urban regions—Surat, Mumbai, Varanasi, and Visakhapatnam—as ‘Growth Hubs’ across India.
Niti Aayog, the Government of India, has planned to develop Surat and its adjoining districts of Bharuch, Navsari, and Tapi as ‘Growth Hub’. In this context, on October 13, 2023, Niti Aayog Senior Advisor Mr. Anna Roy, along with Mr. Abhilesh Babel and other team members, visited Surat. Accordingly, a meeting was organised at the Surat Urban Observatory and Emergency Response Centre (ICCC), Althan of Surat Municipal Corporation, at 10 a.m.
In the meeting, Municipal Commissioner Mrs. Shalini Agarwal IAS made a detailed presentation on the economy of Surat City and District by Surat Municipality and Surat District Administration and the ambitious projects implemented and planned by Surat Municipality, State Government, and Central Government. She briefed the NITI Aayog team about the various infrastructure, social infrastructure, and special initiatives undertaken by the Surat Municipal Corporation, considering the future needs and features of Surat City and Surat Region.
During the meeting, Surat Collector Mr. Ayush Oak (IAS), District Development Officer Mr. BK Vasava (IAS), CEA of SUDA Mr. Yogesh Chaudhary (IAS), officers of Surat Municipal Corporation, officials of various departments of Surat district administration, and representatives of various departments of Gujarat government were present, and Collectors of Bharuch, Navsari, and Tapi districts were connected online. After that, ICCC was visited by representatives of NITI Aayog, and detailed information was given about various operations done by Surat Municipal Corporation from ICCC. DeshGujarat
