Gujarat’s second largest dam Ukai achieves 100 percent water storage today
October 03, 2023
Surat: Gujarat’s second largest dam Ukai is now 100 percent full. Ukai achieved the top level of 105.16 m after 2 a.m. today. With this, the storage in the dam is 7,416.14 MCM which is above the Designed Gross Storage capacity of the dam 7414.29 MCM.
Ukai is considered a lifeline of the Southern Gujarat region. Ukai achieved 100 percent storage for the first time in this monsoon season. There were opportunities last month to achieve the top level, but the government decided against it in order to make Surat safe for the remaining period of the monsoon season which is now nearly at its end.
A meager inflow of 5,929 cusecs was still on at 2 pm today against the matching outflow in the river downstream and canal.
Damanganga, the other dam, crucial for the South Gujarat region is also 100 percent full. Some of the other dams of Gujarat that are 100 percent or nearly full include Javanpara, Wanakbori, Panam, Hadaf, Kadana, Karjan, Dantiwada, Dharoi, Shetrunji, Und-1, Bhadar-2 and Sardar Sarovar. DeshGujarat
