Asiatic Lion duo Jay and Veeru: the new attraction for Gir forest visitors

Gir: The home of Asiatic lions Gir Forest, located in the Saurashtra region, has witnessed the presence of many lion duos in the past, from Dharam Veer to the Bhuriya Brothers to Ram & Shyam. Currently, another duo of two lions, Jay and Veeru, has become the center of attraction for tourists in the Khadakbari range of the Gir forest.

The Jodi of these two ferocious, massive, and regal lions, Jay-Veeru, is currently the most talked-about topic in Gir. They are a majestic sight as they hunt two to three times a day, establishing their dominance in the region. They are always seen together, and the stories of their togetherness and their hunting prowess are captivating. Tracker Sagar and his team are the caretakers of these lions.

Rajya Sabha MP and Lion enthusiast Parimal Nathwani who has authored a book on Gir lions and a documentary on the same commenting on Jay and Viru’s jodi said, “I had the opportunity to see Gir’s male lion duo, Veeru and Jay. They are very handsome, enormous, beautiful, and aggressive lions. Seeing them up close was a fantastic experience. Jay & Veeru are another iconic duo after Dharam Veer that will always be remembered.”

The duo has made Kennedypur village their home. They were frequently spotted in Kennedypur, Malanka, Madhuwanti Dam, Nani Khodiyar, and Natadia areas before entering the Khadakbari area. It appeared as if they had adopted Kennedypur village as their own, often seen strolling through its streets. Their activities were also captured by CCTV cameras in the village.  DeshGujarat
