Ahmedabad: The Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe), headquartered here in the city, recently transferred five significant technologies developed at the Space Applications Centre (SAC)-ISRO to private companies within the space sector.
This technology transfer (ToT) event occurred at the IN-SPACe campus in Bopal. The first technology transferred was an X-band miniaturized Airborne Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), typically mounted on Beechcraft Super King B-200 aircraft flying at an altitude of 8 kilometers. This technology has diverse applications in agriculture, disaster management, oceanography, land-use analysis, geology, and cartography. Two organizations, Data Patterns in Chennai and Astra Microwave in Hyderabad, received this technology.
Another essential technology transferred was the ground penetration radar (GPR), primarily used for security purposes such as landmine detection and locating objects buried 6-10 meters below the ground. A company in Thiruvananthapuram was the recipient of this technology.
The third technology transfer involved the six-port monopole antenna feed technology, which was transferred to a company in Hyderabad. Additionally, the Optical Imaging System developed by SAC-ISRO was transferred to Optimise Solution Private Limited in Ahmedabad.
Furthermore, a two-way mobile satellite service (MSS) terminal, designed for tracking fishermen, was transferred to Azista Aerospace Pvt Ltd in Ahmedabad. This company specializes in developing satellite-enabled ground systems, including hydrometeorology systems.
IN-SPACe is a single-window, independent agency operating autonomously within the Department of Space (DOS) with the primary goal of facilitating private sector participation in the space sector. Nilesh Desai, the director of SAC-ISRO, emphasized the importance of these technology transfers, highlighting the focus on application-driven programs and the utilization of space technologies for public purposes.
