Ahmedabad: Just a few months after the discovery of a Marijuana plantation at Marwad University in Rajkot, a similar plantation has been found in the hostel campus of Gujarat University here in the city today.
National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) workers located the Marijuana (ganja) plants near D Block in the Gujarat University Hostel campus. However, it will only be confirmed whether it is indeed a cannabis plant after conducting tests. There were a lot of plants growing in the area due to the rains in the city.
A team from the Gujarat University police arrived at the location and took possession of two plants, with heights of 6.5 feet and 4.5 feet. “We have confiscated the two plants in the presence of witnesses and have initiated an inquiry. We are currently determining whether the cannabis was deliberately cultivated or grew naturally. A forensic specialist was also summoned to the scene,” mentioned Inspector VJ Jadeja from the Gujarat University police. He added that the subsequent steps will be determined based on the findings from the forensic report.
NSUI president Narendra Solanki stated, “Earlier, we also discovered Marijuana cultivation at Marwad University in Rajkot, but no action was taken. Students are also getting drunk. It’s not just marijuana; students are consuming intoxicating substances like drugs. We demand that the government take note of this issue and take appropriate action against those responsible.”
Attempts were made to contact Neerja Gupta, Chancellor of Gujarat University, but she could not be reached. PI VJ Jadeja of Gujarat University Police Station and the police staff have arrived at the scene.
In a comparable occurrence, on April 13, a total of 23 cannabis plants with an estimated market worth of around Rs 80,000 were discovered thriving on the premises of Marwadi University located along Rajkot-Morbi Road.DeshGujarat
