Ahmedabad: According to a senior White House official, the United States has announced its plans to establish two new consulates in Bengaluru and Ahmedabad, while India is set to open a mission in Seattle. This move aims to strengthen people-to-people connections between the two nations.
While addressing the joint press conference, US President Joe Biden announced the decision to open new consulates in Ahmedabad and Bengaluru. Prime Minister Modi thanked him and further announced that India will also open a new consulate in Seattle.

The official stated, “The United States intends to open new consulates in Bengaluru and Ahmedabad. India is also looking forward to the opening of its consulate in Seattle in 2023 and is excited to announce another consulate in the United States.”
Additionally, the US Department of State is preparing to launch a pilot program later this year to process domestic renewals of specific petition-based temporary work visas, including those for Indian nationals. The intention is to expand this program to a broader group of individuals in the future, as per the official’s statement.
Currently, India has five consulates in New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Houston, and Atlanta, in addition to its embassy in Washington. The US embassy in New Delhi is among the largest US diplomatic missions globally. It coordinates the activities of four consulates in Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, and Hyderabad.
This development coincides with the state visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the United States. As part of his three-day visit, Modi had a meeting with President Joe Biden and is scheduled to meet Vice President Kamala Harris and Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Modi actively took part in the International Yoga Day event held at the United Nations headquarters on June 21. DeshGujarat
