Case against Gujarat Titans for playing songs without copyright permission

Gandhinagar: The Copyright Society of the Central Government has filed a case against IPL cricket franchise Gujarat Titans in the Gandhinagar court for breach of copyright. The case is based on the allegation that the team played ‘Helo Maro Sambhlo’ and ‘Mara Palavno’, two Gujarati songs, during the break between the IPL match in breach of copyright act.
Gujarat Titans, representing Gujarat in the IPL match, is the defendant in the case filed in the Gandhinagar court. Messrs Recorded Music Performance Ltd, under the Copyright Act 1957, made an appeal, claiming that the two Gujarati songs were played during the break without the necessary copyrights. The court in Gandhinagar issued a notice to Gujarat Titans for further hearing.
Gujarat Titans and DNA Entertainment Network Pvt Ltd have assured the court that they will not play the songs in the upcoming matches. Messrs Recorded Music Performance Ltd made a claim against Gujarat Titans in the Gandhinagar commercial court. DeshGujarat
