Sabarmati: Newly appointed US Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, visited the Sabarmati Ashram, also known as the Gandhi Ashram today.
Garcetti was warmly received upon his arrival and greeted the people with a traditional “Namaste” gesture. Then he visited the small cottage there called “Hridaya Kunj,” where Mahatma Gandhi resided during his time in Sabarmati. He also tried his hands at Charkha used to make the cotton thread.
Reflecting on his connection with India, Garcetti mentioned that he first visited the country at the age of 14. Later, during his university years as a student, he began studying the teachings and writings of Mahatma Gandhi.
Garcetti emphasized that this is a remarkable moment in U.S.-India relations, urging both countries to raise their ambitions. Garcetti highlighted the importance of dreams and hard work in achieving success, regardless of one’s background, religion, or language.
He praised the progress made in bilateral trade between the U.S. and India, which has grown from two billion dollars to over 100 billion dollars, making the U.S. India’s top trading partner. He also mentioned the collaborative efforts in defense and security to ensure the safety of both nations and the Indo-Pacific region.
