Surat: Two more corporators of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) have joined the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Ward No. 3 corporator Kanu Gediya, and Ward No. 2 corporator, Alpesh Patel joined the BJP today. AAP had won 27 seats in the year 2021 regular election of SMC. Out of them, 12 corporators have joined BJP so far. There are now 15 corporators left with AAP.
SMC standing committee chairman Paresh Patel said that the rule of the anti-defection law will not be effective in this case as one-third of total AAP corporators joined the BJP. A minimum of 12 members are necessary to form an opposition.
Last week, ten AAP corporators formally joined the BJP. Out of them, four had declared support for BJP last year. DeshGujarat
