Ahmedabad DEO serves notice to Nirma Vidyavihar School over sharp fee hike

Amdavad: The district education officer (DEO) of Ahmedabad issued a show-cause notice to Nirma Vidyavihar School (a private school in Bodakdev) for increasing annual fees by 40% without the consent of the school fees regulatory committee (FRC).

The school had increased the fees from Rs 89,000 to Rs 1.24 lakh for the academic year 2023-24, whereas the FRC rules allow a maximum increase of 5%. The FRC has not approved any fee increase applications up till now. Despite this, the school has still collected the first quarter’s fees from many parents and is demanding higher fees from them.

Ahmedabad city DEO, R M Chaudhari said that after receiving complaints from parents of students alleging that Nirma Vidyavihar School raised fees by 30-40% for the academic year 2023-24, the school’s management has been sent a show-cause notice with a deadline of two days to respond.

The school has claimed that it has raised fees by 5% as per the FRC order and an additional one-month fee as a termination fee.

The school is run by Nirma Education & Research Foundation, which is chaired by Karsanbhai Patel. Karsanbhai’s sons are the Vice Chairman and Managing Director of the Foundation. The school has been in news in the past for wrong reason in connection with the use of adjacent government land for a garden. DeshGujarat
