Gandhinagar: After the state’s inability to implement the teaching of the Gujarati Language in Kendriya Vidyalaya, the Gujarat high court issued a notice to the central government regarding the matter. The state government has submitted that KVs are not under its control.

While hearing the public interest litigation filed by Ahmedabad-based NGO Matrubhasha Abhiyaan seeking mandatory teaching of Gujarati in all schools. The court observed that the union government should be made a party to the case and it issued notice to the Central government seeking a response by February 3.

The state government has submitted that only 23 schools are not teaching Gujarati. However, the petitioner disputed this claim and submitted that the no of schools violating the April 2018 circular of the state govt that made Gujarati compulsory stands at 109 for IB and ICSC schools and 45 CBSE schools.

The division bench of Justices Sonia Gokani and Sandeep Bhatt also asked the government to consider the petitioner’s suggestion about deploying the people who want to spread Gujarati as Nodal officers to see the implementation of the policy. DeshGujarat
