Gujarati Language to be mandatory subject by 2024

Gandhinagar: The Gujarati language was made a compulsory subject in classes 1 to 8, last month by the state director of primary education. Now, for mandatory teaching of the subject, the implementation of this order would be done in a phased manner by 2024.
According to the sources, even when the education department had made teaching of Gujarati language in primary school classes mandatory in 2018 through a circular there were some schools that were not following the order.
However, the source said that the director of primary education has issued this notification to make the schools follow the rule. For which the introduction of Gujarati sated in a phased manner as in 2018 it was introduced in classes 1-2, in 2019 to class 3, and in 202o to class 4 now it will go on till 2024 with the subject being added to each class very year.
