Kidney Institute in Ahmedabad gets approval for Uterus transplant operations

Ahmedabad: The kidney institute of Ahmedabad (IKDRF) at civil medicity campus has received permission for uterus transplant.
The kidney institute at Ahmedabad civil medicity will be the first government- semi government institute in the country to make the facility of uterus transplant available to patients. State Authorization Committee has given approval for uterus transplant to the kidney institute under the Transplantation of Human Organ Act of Government of Gujarat 1994. The transplants of uterus in addition to transplants of kidney, liver and pancreas will be possible at kidney institute now onwards.
IKDRC director Dr Vinit Mishra informed that the uterus transplant was only possible at a private institute at Pune in the country so far. Total 6 cases of uterus transplant were registered so far at Pune based facility.
He added that while some women don’t have uterus by birth, in some other case, a woman’s uterus is removed later in the life after problems in the uterus due to some reasons. Such females will be able to conceive due to the uterus transplant. DeshGujarat
