Rajkot Railway Division launches digital system to allot vacant berths to passengers

Rajkot: The Rajkot Railway Division is focusing on digitization in order to ensure and enhance the comfort level of passengers. An HHT (Hand Held Terminal) system has been launched in order to digitally update vacant berths in running trains so that they can be allotted to the passengers.

The project was started on a pilot basis on Monday in the Jamnagar-Bandra Humsafar Express. Under this system, a TTE will be able to get updates on every vacant seat at every station through a central server. If any confirmed ticket holder fails to board the train, that information will be updated through the device and the seat will be allotted to a RAC or wait-listed passenger.

Railway authorities have informed that the Rajkot Railway Division has been allotted 72 devices for this new project. TTEs had been allotting vacant berths in the past also but the process was carried out manually for which charts were available only at bigger stations but the entire process lacked transparency.

Under the digital Hand Held Terminal project, the entire process of maintaining a record of all vacant berths at the respective stations will happen online by connecting to a central server, owing to which the vacant berths will not be allotted to anybody else other than passengers on the RAC list or the waiting list.
