Adani ports will not handle containerized cargo originating from Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan
October 11, 2021
Gandhinagar: Gautam Adani and Karan Adani owned Adani Ports and Logistics, headquartered in Gujarat today announced a decision that it will not handle export – import containerized cargo originating from Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan at any of its ports with effect from November 15 this year.
‘Please be informed that with effect from 15th November 2021, APSEZ (Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone) will not handle EXIM (Export – Import) containerized cargo originating from Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan’, a statement said.
‘This trade advisory will apply to all terminals operated by APSEZ and including third party terminals at any APSEZ port till further notice,” the statement further read.
It’s worth noting that last month Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) had seized 3004 kg heroin arrived as container cargo at Adani’s Mundra Port in Kutch district of Gujarat. Though it is not port operator’s responsibility or purview to open the containers and check the goods, port operator Adani’s name was dragged into controversy by opposition political parties. Seized heroin had entered to the port under the declared title of talcum stone from Afghanistan via Iran. The illegal trafficking had Pakistani links too. Mundra is the nearest cargo handling sea port in India from Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan.
