Surat to have a World Jewelry Trade Centre
August 30, 2021
Surat: Icchapore in Surat will have a world jewellery trade centre spreading across 60 thousand yards of land.
The then Chief Minister of Gujarat Narendrabhai Modi had allotted the land of Ichchhapor GIDC to Gujarat Diamond Bourse for the construction of jewellery park in year 2004. The UPA government had given permission for a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) status for the same but the project of jewellery park couldn’t materialize due to recession in the diamond business in 2008-2009. Later around 10 units had started after the notified zones were de-notified and restrictions were relaxed by the NDA government in 2014.
The present Chief Minister Rupani has reportedly asked Nanubhai Vanani, secretary of Gujarat Diamond Bourse to also accomodate synthetic diamond and jewellery manufacturers in the jewellery park. The extra land of the canal will be demanded from the government at appraisal cost or barter system for proposed World Jewelry Trade Centre. DeshGujarat
