Polling for Gujarat local elections phase-2 covering over 2.5 crore voters on Sunday

Gandhinagar: Gujarat will witness polling for regular elections of 81 municipalities, 31 district panchayats and 231 taluka panchayats on Sunday, February 28. Along with this, by-polls will also take place across 23 municipalities and 3 taluka panchayats. Over 2.5 crore votes are eligible to cast vote in this second phase of local elections.
Out of 2729 seats across 680 wards of 81 municipalities, 95 seats have been won unopposed. Therefore polling will take place on 2625 seats, on which 2555 BJP candidates, 2247 INC candidates, 109 BSP, 719 AAP, 432 others and 1184 independent candidates are in fray.
Out of 980 seats of 31 district panchayats, winner on 25 seats are declared uncontested. Polling will therefore take place on 955 seats for which 954 BJP, 937 INC, 88 BSP, 304 AAP, 163 other parties and 209 independent candidates are in fray.
Out of 4,774 seats of 231 taluka panchayats, 117 seats are declared uncontested. Nomination forms are not filed on 2 seats. Polling will therefore take place on 4655 seats for which BJP’s 4652, INC 4594, BSP 255, AAP 1067, other parties 558 and 1139 independent candidates are in fray.
