MoU signed for setting up 4 desalination plants in coastal Saurashtra, Kutch

Gandhinagar: The Government of Gujarat today signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) for setting up desalination plants at 4 villages in Devbhumi Dwarka, Bhavnagar, Kutch and Gir Somnath districts. The plants will be set up in two years period after approval is granted. The plants will have capacity to convert daily 27 crore liter sea water into drinking water.
State government arm Gujarat Water Infrastructure Ltd (GWIL) signed MoU with Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) of Mumbai based Shaporji Palonji & Company and Aquatic System Asia Pvt Ltd Joint Venture.
Four plants are planned at Gandhvi village in Devbhumi Dwarka district for daily capacity of 7 crore liter Ghogha in Bhavnagar district for daily capacity of 7 crore liter, Gundiyali in Mandvi taluka of Kutch district for daily 10 crore liter and Vadodara Zala village of Sutrapada taluka of Gir Somnath district for daily 3 crore liter capacity.
SPV will be responsible for environment clearance and other related approvals for which State government will extend cooperation.
The plants will need to be made operational within two years after all approvals are received
All four plants will be connected to state wide water grid in order to ensure water security to Saurashtra-Kutch regions.
