Gandhinagar: Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has given approval to Rajkot – Ahmedabad semi high-speed rail project. It will take just two hours to travel between two cities when the project is completed. Estimated cost of this project is Rs. 11,300 crore. It will be linked to Ahmedabad – Mumbai high-speech rail corridor eventually.

The project is proposed to be implemented besides the national highway 47 in order to avoid land acquisition related difficulties. The train will move at 160 km speed.

According to a note circulated by the government, as many as 19 lakh people were traveling between two cities in 2007 against 45 lakh in year 2017 which indicates 9% growth per year in the number of passengers.

The Chief Minister has ordered some surveys to be carried out to start this project soon. The project, according a note circulated by the government will generate 200 direct and 7300 indirect jobs in the span of next 30 years.
