New Delhi: The Supreme Court today upheld convention of the seven accused in year 2003 Haren Pandya murder case. The Supreme Curt dismissed with a cost of Rs. 50,000, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by NGO Centre for Public Interest Litigation seeking a fresh court-monitored probe in the case saying several new facts had emerged recently which required fresh investigation into this murder case.

The Supreme Court has thus overturned the Gujarat High Court judgement acquitting 12 accused in the case of murdering then former minister of state for Home Haren Pandya on March 26, 2003. Supreme Court has restored trial court verdict holding the accused guilt.

In Haren Pandya case, out of 12, nine accused were awarded life imprisonment while the remaining three were awarded sentences ranging from five to seven years rigorous imprisonment. All 12 convicts however were acquitted by the High Court. Out of 12, three had completed their sentence.
