Mother Sonia defends him, son Rahul back to the job with same old temper after a week-long confusion
June 01, 2019
New Delhi: After around a week-long insistence to step down from the post of party’s national president, Rahul Gandhi agreed to meet party’s newly elected MPs today. Rahul Gandhi, his mother Sonia Gandhi (Parliamentary Party chief of Congress) and his sister Priyanka Gandhi(General Secretary of Congress) Rahul also attended a meeting of Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP). In this meeting, Rahul’s mother and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi was elected leader of Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP). Sonia in her speech defended and admired son Rahul. Rahul in his speech didn’t show any remorse or corrective softness after party’s rout in Lok Sabha elections. In a press conference today, Congress spokesperson Surjewala clarified that Rahul Gandhi had not resigned. He had proposed to resign but Congress Working Committee had rejected the offer. It should be noted that various state party units and leaders had started tweeting requested to Rahul Gandhi to withdraw his resignation. Some party workers including some workers in Ahmedabad had even organized demonstration urging Rahul to take back his resignation. By today’s developments it appears that after a week-long post-defeat realization that party needs to be leaded by someone outside the Gandhi-Nehru dynasty, the family is back. However the content of their speeches indicate that nothing much has been learnt from consequent two defeats in Lok Sabha elections and numerious other defeats in assembly polls countrywide(barring few in which local reasons contributed to victory of Congress).
