Gujarat High Court grants bail to Hardik’s aide Alpesh Kathiria in Sedition case, but won’t be able to come out of jail

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat High Court today granted bail to Hardik Patel’s aide Alpesh Kathiria in the sedition case lodged here in connection with the violence after August 2015 Patidar quota rally by the crime branch of Ahmedabad police.
The court of Justice A Y Kogje had completed the hearing on the bail petition on October 30.
Despite getting bail Kathiria who has now been arrested by Surat police in another sedition case lodged there won’t be able to come out of jail.
Kathiria’s lawyer during course of argument had said that the case was a result of political animosity against his client. The government lawyer on the other hand had opposed his bail plea.
Kahtiria had moved high court after the session court rejected his bail plea.
Notably Kathiria, a native of Surat, was arrested on August 19 here. He was arrested initially with Hardik and seven others while trying to go to Narol area for a symbolic fast and was granted bail in that matter with others only to be arrested again in the sedition case lodge by the crime branch here in October 2015.
Hardik, who was also arrested earlier in this case and granted bail by Gujarat High Court, had made release of Kahiria one of the main issues during his fast.
Update from Surat
Surat : Alpesh was produced in a court in Surat in connection with the other sedition case of 2015 lodged in Amroli police station there.
The police did not seek any remand of him and the court sent him to Lajpore central jail in judicial custody.
His advocate Yashvant Vala said that he would file bail petition in this matter in the lower court in 2 to 3 days.
