Gujarat makes record 10 crore units supply to farmers in a single day: Saurabh

Gandhinagar: Gujarat government today said that a record 10 crore units of electricity, highest ever single day supply to farmers, was supplied to around 15 lakh farmers of Guajrat yesterday and the government was committed to provided adequate electricity to them to save their standing crops.

Talking to newsmen here Energy Minister Saurabh Patel said that last month CM Vijay Rupani had decided last month to extend the power supply hours to farmers from 8 hours a day to 10 hrs a day. ‘Yesterday 10 crore units were supplied to them which was record in itself. This amount of electricity to the farmers was never supplied in any other single day in the history of Gujarat. It was also much more than those states where the number of farmers was higher than that of Gujarat,’ he said.

‘For instance Telangana which has 23 lakh farmers and talks of 24 hours electricity supply to them had supplied 7 crore units only, Maharashtra with over 40 lakh farmers had supplied 8 crore units, UP with also over 40 lakh farmers had supplied 9.5 crore units,’ he added.

To a query he said that the state government was supplying electricity to farmers by purchasing at a rate of Rs 4.50 per unit and did not bother about the burden thus caused . ‘We will continue to supply to the farmers as per their needs and won’t bother about the price or financial burden. We want to save their crops,’ he said.
